My Actor

Archie auditioned for the MCT production of The Jungle Book and to my surprise, made it! There were 96 children trying out and he was taller than 16 of them there and there was only one other five year old present.

Trying to find his place. They had them line up shortest to tallest. He stood about where he needed to but probably should have moved over a few kids...

Once he found his place they all counted off. Archie was suppose to say 17 and those darn teens are hard on his 5 yr old brain. He said, "19?" then the director told him, "say 17" and he did. Then they all said their first and last names and ages. He only got his first name out but it turns out he was next to a bunch of seven year olds and and 8 year old and he was loud enough to be heard.
They eventually did some cute monkey dances and they all sang, row row row your boat.

This is when he had to say that he hates blue. The girls said they hate pink.
During auditions, they asked the kids if they were interested in being assistant directors, to raise their hands. Archie held his high AND when they asked kids to keep their hand up if they were only interested in assistant directing to keep it up, his hand remained raised. Luckily, the directors took into account that he was 5 and was better suited to be and monkey than a helper.

He was the 10th monkey called. I think they cast 12 monkeys and about 40 kids total.

Since we got home, we found the monkey's song on youtube and practiced. We also printed out coloring sheets to go along with the lyrics. He loves to color and I think that will help him remember.

He is so excited to be in The Jungle Book. It's one of his favorite stories. Also, this boy volunteered to give a talk in sacrament meeting yesterday and did a great job! He is often shy but I feel like we are helping him by giving him chances to do things that stretch his comfort zone.
