Caleb 6 Months

Happy Half Birthday!

I spend a ridiculous amount of time pinching and tickling his rolls of fat. With a laugh like Caleb's, who wouldn't?

So my dairy free diet seems to be paying off. His snot was all clear after about 2.5 weeks of me saying goodbye to dairy. He has been sleeping and breathing better. When the New Mexico dust storms/wind got really bad he got a bit of a runny nose as did most of our family but even with that he is doing ok breathing a sleeping. In fact, we have seen a few more 11ish hours of sleep from him.

He seemed eager to try eating again so we tried feeding him some purees but soon gave up because he is just spitting it out. The tongue thrust reflex just hasn't gone away yet so I guess he's not ready. He still has 4-5 8ounce bottles a day. He generally only eats them for me and even then he has to be half asleep and swaddled. It's like he doesn't like food anymore. Good thing he has all that fat on him from when he did.

Caleb loves to sit. He will sit and play with a toy for the loooooongest time. He will sit up in his bouncy and when we set him in the car seat we have to push him back to buckle him in. When a toy gets out of reach he will slowly scoot over to it while staying in the sitting position. He enjoys bouncing and jumping in his baby bouncer and jumper. He loves exploring everything with his mouth. He is great at making a variety of faces and being incredibly cute.

Best facial expression ever.

He really loves fabric and will put anything he can get a hold of into his mouth.
He is all about his feet these days.

He is still such a happy guy.

Archie was all too eager to get in on the picture action. Caleb loves his brother. Archie is getting better at sharing with him. Archie wins Caleb's admiration by reading him books, bringing him toys, shrieking in his ear, holding his bottle when mom is driving, running around like a maniac, slapping him in the face (I swear he likes it), and giving him kisses.

Six month stats:
Weight- 23 lbs 1 oz
Length- 28 inches

I don't usually pay too much attention to head circumference but Caleb's was 19 inches!! (Archie's was 20 inches at his 2 year check up a couple of weeks ago).

They didn't print out the exact percentiles for us but his weight and head circumference were way above the 98th percentile and his length was between the 90th and 95th.

The Best Four Years

So we've been married for four years!
Jacob has been such a great husband and father.
I am so lucky.
We couldn't go out to dinner (like usual) to celebrate since I am doing the dairy free thing. So we hired a babysitter and took a long walk around campus, held hands, kissed a lot and took some pictures of us along the way. These are some of my favorite and I may like this better than eating out anyway.

This was the pose we sent out on our wedding invitations.

He really can make me laugh.

Caleb 5 Months

Our sweet baby boy is five months old!
He is such a wonderful baby.
We tried to feed him a bit of squash, even though we had said we would wait, because he had been waking up so much at night. We had him on the tiniest portion once a day and that cut his milk intake by 1/3-1/2 and he was still waking up at night. So we stopped the squash and his feeding went back to normal which is about five 8 ounce bottles per day.
He still has a stuffy nose. It's been going on for more than 2 months now. Recently, it had been getting worse because it keeps waking him up at night sometime 3 or 4 times when he had previously slept 10-12 hours without waking up at night. A friend suggested that I eliminate dairy and after some research we decided it was worth a try. We also switched his saline drops and got a new fancy booger sucker. This last night he only woke up once to eat. He still seems to have quite a few boogers but I've only been off dairy for a week. From what I have read it will take at least 2-3 weeks for real improvement. We would LOVE to be able to sleep through the night again!
He is getting harder to swaddle. We use blankets my mom made just for him that are 2 yards long. Yes, he is that wide! Sometime it takes both of us to get him swaddled. I have to sing or make funny noises to distract him while I swaddle him by myself. He love being sung too.
He notices quicker when we leave the room and will start to call for us and get upset if we are gone for too long but he is still such a happy, gentle, patient baby.
He still loves a good conversation. The variety of sounds he makes is expanding quickly. He has recently added "mama" and a kissing sound. I'm not sure which I love more!
He is getting really fast at grabbing toys and putting them in his mouth. He will drag toys towards him and sometimes scoot a few inches when on his belly to get to a toy or book. He is a big fan of the wire whisk and the tape measure. He will help me turn the pages of books we I read to him. He is completely fascinated when he sits outside looking up at our evergreen tree. He loves his bouncey and bouncer. He found his feet much earlier this past month but they don't seem to be nearly as entertaining as his big brother is to him. I often find Caleb watching Archie with looks of joy and admiration.
He dislikes laying on his back for too long but will be so happy to sit up and play with toys. He is a great sitter. He still gets so excited that he falls backwards every so often so we leave the Boppy Pillow around him so that if he falls has a soft place to land. His abs are incredibly strong. He can almost do a sit up on his own.

He is now wearing size 18-24 month clothes.
