Thanksgiving Weekend

This Thanksgiving we went to visit Jacob's family, which is fine by me since his mom is an awesome cook. We had a tasty feast including this turkey:
Earlier that day we had some fun times in a leaf maze.

We hiked to the 10 commandments rock...

... that you can see behind this cutie.

We had some fun adventures through the mountains. Archie did well.

Goofy Photos

I thought I'd take a little editing break and share a couple of funny photos from a recent photo shoot. If you haven't checked out my deztography portraits lately go HERE.

Eight Months Old

Archie has survived another month despite his apparent preference for dangerous and/or dirty objects. We are most grateful that he is finally falling asleep on his own (no swaddle, no pacifier, no walking the halls), although sometimes he is faster at it then others.

He will run across the room/house if he's holding onto my fingers. He can stand on his own for a few seconds. It may be such a short time because he is so active. It's increasingly challenging to change his diaper and put on his pants. He loves to throw, then chase a ball around. We love it when he puts a toy or book in his mouth, keeps it there and then crawls around carrying it in his mouth. You may have seen a dog do this. He loves to chase a ribbon or scarf when I drag one in front of him. You may have seen a cat do this. We have no pets. He understands when I ask him to come to me or follow me.

He joins in our conversations by babbling and repeating sounds that we make. Weeks ago, I was explaining to him (in German, I try to only speak German to him) that I was reading a book (Buch) "Ich lese ein Buch. Das Buch ist rot. Das ist mein Buch." bzw, and he says, "Bu... Bu... Bu!" ("Bu" sounds like "boo"). He has more recently babbled the "ch" sound. Maybe he'll get them together soon.

He knows I am Mama or it's just coincidence that his cry often has "Mama" sounds in it, like "Maaama mumm mum mummmm". I think it's the cutest cry ever.

He is up to 4 teeth (see the newer top ones?) and a very swollen gum where one will soon break though. He bites. Watch your feet around him. New baby teeth are sharp, which is good for getting my attention... and eating. He is eating tons of baby mush and little bits of our grown up dinner. He enjoyed chewing on a chicken bone the other day. It kept him occupied for at least a half hour.

I'm trying to teach him to blow kisses but this is just him about to put his hand in his mouth.

His eyes are still mostly blue and his hair is red but it's getting darker.

He is looking at his Papa in the above photo. He loves him so!

He often listens to his toys or paper that he crinkles by his ear.

He is so happy, smart, cuddly, snotty, fantastic, poopy, big, exploratory and fun.

Archie Stands!

I recently got a new toy and Jacob was home during the day so we tested it out.
It's a wireless remote for my camera.
I thought it would be fun to get a couple of shots of us playing in our living room with all the toy-mess-glory it usually has.

This was the 1st shot.

We got a lot of photos like this. Archie was terrified that the camera was taking photos without me behind it.

We love our sweet boy.

He is standing here all by himself. He was fascinated by the camera long enough to get a few shots of him standing and staring. He didn't even fall after; he just slowly sat himself down. He is so strong.

Our Busy Saturday

We went to the renaissance fair yesterday morning.
Archie enjoyed watching the jousting and the dancing.

I went to photograph the NMSU Dance team there. Here are just a couple of favorites from the morning.

I loved the dragon that's in the lake. Do you see it hiding in the upper right hand corner of the above photo?

It was so cold that I made soup after the renaissance fair and my sister came over and ate lunch with us and brought us tickets to an amazing dinner and dance show.

Archie got to stay with a friend and we got to go dancing. It's been a while since Jacob or I have had dance lessons so any one who was unfortunate enough to watch us was probably appalled by or moves but we had a great time.

It was the El Paso Ballroom Dance Academy's 1st Annual Benefit Gala. So mostly it was a bunch of rich people there since tickets were about $100 each (Was I clear that we got ours free?). The benefit was raising funds for... do you want to stop and guess here? hungry children? dance programs in elementary schools? cancer? no. no. no. The correct answer: baseball. I was surprised.

The main attraction for the event was these two amazing world champion dancers. You can see them in action HERE. Just be aware that your mouth maybe hanging open in awe within seconds.

When we were on our way out of the benefit, we passed a little girl who exclaimed, "Look it's Cinderella!" to her father after seeing me in a light blue dress. It made my evening that much better.

Cinnamon Rolls

I love cinnamon rolls. I craved cinnamon so much when I was pregnant with Archie, I must have made these 17 times in my last trimester alone.

I made these for dinner the other night. Is it mean that Archie ate peas and we ate this?

Anyways, I thought I'd share what make my cinnamon rolls the BEST. Caramel. I put a homemade caramel glaze on the top and bottom before I bake them.

Homemade Caramel Glaze:
(for one pan of cinnamon rolls)
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
dash of cinnamon

Another tip: when I bake them, I let them rise in the oven when it's preheating so they go from how they look below to what they are above in a total of about 20 minutes.

Halloween Night

Archie visited a couple of neighbors in his costume and was asleep by 7:30.
We had about 7 trick-or-treaters this year.
