Archie's First Christmas

Merry Christmas!

Archie had a really fun time!

On Christmas Eve the children and who ever they draft, put on a skit of the Christmas story. All the babies were assigned to be sheep and their mothers were shepherds. After taking this picture of Archie in this lamb hat we noticed that red button in his mouth. Yes, he wound up swallowing it when we were trying to fish it out. The button looked the same a day and a half latter in his diaper. So in case you were curious, stomach acids do not bleach plastic.

These are some of Archie's cousins. They are a cute bunch.

This is another one of Archie opening his first present a few days early. He did get better at it and even opened a few by himself.

More cousins!

There was lots of family there and even more presents.

Is it normal for babies to fake smile at 9 and a half months?

A Few Traditions

We have an advent wreath or Adventskranz. It's something that I noticed every family have when I served my mission in Germany a few years back. It's a simple tradition that we have adopted as a family. I love it because it reminds me of the people that I was blessed to serve and a time in my life that was completely devoted to Christ. We light a candle the four Sundays before Christmas as a count down. We also sing a Christmas song and read a scripture or two and enjoy the luminescence.

Here's Archie opening his 1st Christmas present...

...he needed some help.

Since we've been married it's been a tradition to have two Christmases so that we can be with both families (Jacob's parents and mine). This means early Christmas presents!

Archie Got To Meet Santa

Santa stopped by grandma's house today while Archie was there!

I was lucky enough to capture a smiling Archie on Santa's lap!

It didn't last long.

I got a full fledged crying one too. :)

We were so lucky to get a visit tonight from Uncle Adam and Aunt Geneva. Archie was a little shy at first but he warmed right up and had some fun times playing ball and truck. Archie even let them read him some favorite books.

Archie has good page turning skills.

Nine Months Old

I can't believe my little baby is so big.

He is so much fun to be around.
He makes the cutest kissing sounds.
He's is saying more words and is really working hard to figure the talking thing out. Some newer ones include, "thankyou", "Cheerios" and "Papa". His favorites are "Mama", "du" and "ja". These last two are part of a German song I sing to him often; he sings along or will ask me to sing it by saying, "du, du, du".
He still signs occasionally.
He will stand up on his own as long as he is distracted.
When I hold his hands, he will walk me over to the piano, his bottles or his bed depending on what he wants.
He loves to help me in the kitchen. He gets into the trash, dishwasher and cupboards (they were baby proofed probably 20 years ago and so they are semi difficult to open).
Books and balls are still favorites.

He'll clap almost every time we sing, "If you're happy and you know it..."

He's up to 6 teeth but just barely.

He's taken to mimicking grumpy faces and it is so funny to show people this new trick.

Archie is 31 inches long and weighs 22 lbs. That's still off the charts long and 85th percentile for weight.

Archie's First St. Nicholas Day

Happy St. Nicholas Day! I got a few reminders last night to put out our shoes so that St. Nicholas would come and fill them with treats.

With all the snow, we actually put or shoes right next to the door inside. It turns out St. Nicholas is a smart guy and found them.

Archie wasn't sure what to do at first.

Once I showed him which shoe was his he went straight for the goldfish.

It's safe to say he likes this holiday.

Thanksgiving Weekend

This Thanksgiving we went to visit Jacob's family, which is fine by me since his mom is an awesome cook. We had a tasty feast including this turkey:
Earlier that day we had some fun times in a leaf maze.

We hiked to the 10 commandments rock...

... that you can see behind this cutie.

We had some fun adventures through the mountains. Archie did well.

I thought I'd take a little editing break and share a couple of funny photos from a recent photo shoot. If you haven't checked out my deztography portraits lately go HERE.

Eight Months Old

Archie has survived another month despite his apparent preference for dangerous and/or dirty objects. We are most grateful that he is finally falling asleep on his own (no swaddle, no pacifier, no walking the halls), although sometimes he is faster at it then others.

He will run across the room/house if he's holding onto my fingers. He can stand on his own for a few seconds. It may be such a short time because he is so active. It's increasingly challenging to change his diaper and put on his pants. He loves to throw, then chase a ball around. We love it when he puts a toy or book in his mouth, keeps it there and then crawls around carrying it in his mouth. You may have seen a dog do this. He loves to chase a ribbon or scarf when I drag one in front of him. You may have seen a cat do this. We have no pets. He understands when I ask him to come to me or follow me.

He joins in our conversations by babbling and repeating sounds that we make. Weeks ago, I was explaining to him (in German, I try to only speak German to him) that I was reading a book (Buch) "Ich lese ein Buch. Das Buch ist rot. Das ist mein Buch." bzw, and he says, "Bu... Bu... Bu!" ("Bu" sounds like "boo"). He has more recently babbled the "ch" sound. Maybe he'll get them together soon.

He knows I am Mama or it's just coincidence that his cry often has "Mama" sounds in it, like "Maaama mumm mum mummmm". I think it's the cutest cry ever.

He is up to 4 teeth (see the newer top ones?) and a very swollen gum where one will soon break though. He bites. Watch your feet around him. New baby teeth are sharp, which is good for getting my attention... and eating. He is eating tons of baby mush and little bits of our grown up dinner. He enjoyed chewing on a chicken bone the other day. It kept him occupied for at least a half hour.

I'm trying to teach him to blow kisses but this is just him about to put his hand in his mouth.

His eyes are still mostly blue and his hair is red but it's getting darker.

He is looking at his Papa in the above photo. He loves him so!

He often listens to his toys or paper that he crinkles by his ear.

He is so happy, smart, cuddly, snotty, fantastic, poopy, big, exploratory and fun.
